Extracurricular Activities: How Kids Benefit from Magic Classes

extracurricular activities

Extracurricular activities! Glee club is fine, but did you know that magic classes are becoming increasingly popular?

I’ve had the privilege of teaching popular magic classes at after-school programs across NYC. Magic classes are naturally fun, but I’ve found the kids get a lot more out of them, too.

Extracurricular activities, like magic classes, can provide children of all ages with important life skills. Research shows that those who engage in such activities generally go on to be more successful and earn higher salaries in later life.

Some of the benefits of extracurricular activities after-school include:

  • Improved social skills
  • Better teamwork and cooperative skills
  • Improved time management skills
  • Greater self-confidence
  • Greater sense of responsibility
  • Improved communications skills
  • Greater ability to solve problems
  • Discovering hidden talents
  • Capitalizing on special gifts and talents
  • Meeting people from different backgrounds, cultures, etc.
  • Meeting people with similar interests and finding a sense of belonging
  • Trying new things that are outside the child’s comfort zone
  • Providing a sense of achievement
  • Allowing academic underachievers to shine in different areas

Although all of my students learn how to perform amazing magic tricks, each class is also designed to expose them to new experiences, ideas and people.

By combining magic with a lesson on teamwork, for example, the kids broaden their horizons and discover that learning can actually be fun!

I typically teach magic classes at a few schools each year, but availability is limited.
