My wife and I are proud new parents of a 10 month old, mobile, bundle of joy.
Every day, my son drinks two bottles of milk.
But just the other day, as I was opening the milk jug, I cut the side of my left thumb on the aluminum foil that seals the milk. Ouch!
Because of that, I needed a band-aid. (fun fact: I nearly passed out during my first First Aid Certification Class)
Because of that band-aid, I lost some of the dexterity that I usually have, and performing magic became exponentially harder.
And because of that, I started to think about what life would be like if my thumb never healed…((cue melodramatic music)) How would I continue performing? How would I drive? How would I… sur-vive?
Until finally, I was inspired to make this video of a magic trick where my fingers disappear, reappear, etc.

This silly incident – while far from life threatening in any way – still reminds me of how easy it is to take the little things in life for granted.
That being said, I’d like to say that I’m grateful for my opposable thumbs, for my adorable son and beautiful wife, and for the opportunity to continue performing sleight of hand for hundreds of events across NYC each year.
