I don’t bring a microphone to birthday parties.
This can be somewhat controversial, but at the end of the day, it’s for one simple reason: microphones don’t improve the audience’s experience of a birthday party magic show.
What do you know about birthday parties and the way I do things differently?
As a full-time magician, I’ve performed for over 3,000 birthday parties and I really care about creating inclusive, memorable, and engaging experiences.
It’s not just magic tricks: it’s about creating an entertainment experience that has everyone – from the children to the adults – feeling the connection, camaraderie, and love in the room.
One big lesson I’ve learned is that a microphone can ruin all that.
How would you feel if…?
A couple carried on a conversation behind you at an IMAX theater.
Annoyed, frustrated…angry?
I bet you’re a bit like me: you’d be pretty pissed if you came to relax and enjoy the show, and someone tried to speak louder than the movie.
Unfortunately, I’ve found that bringing a microphone to birthdays encourages guests to speak over the performance.
In addition, all nuance in pitch and volume is lost, children are overwhelmed by the mounting noise in the room, and the audience members’ overall experience suffers.
The good news is this: I understand the importance of your child’s birthday party, and can give you the magic formula for turning it into the most fun and memorable day yet.
