Have you heard about the fiver birthday party trend? It just might be the solution you’ve been waiting for…
Let’s start at the beginning: what is a fiver birthday party?
It’s where you ask guests to bring $5 instead of gifts. You then put this money towards one big present that your child wants.
Any downsides? If the birthday child expects lots of gifts, then not seeing a pile of presents could understandably be pretty disappointing.
If I were planning a fiver birthday party for my son or daughter, I’d set expectations in advance and involve them in the party planning process as much as possible.
It would also be important to me to buy and wrap the gift in advance. That way, they’d still be able to enjoy the experience of unwrapping and playing with it.
In addition to the date, time, and location, add wording that sets expectations for the parents:
“Join us for [your child’s name] birthday party! Instead of presents, please bring $5 that will go towards a [name of gift]. Thank you!”
Okay, let’s re-cap…
With the right planning, a fiver birthday party can be a win for everyone involved.
