Virtual Magic Show Tips: Lights, Camera… Abracadabra!
Let me guess… you’re planning a virtual magic show, and want to make sure it’s fun and runs smoothly?
And for my next trick… ;-)
Hi, I’m Evan, or ‘Magic Evan,’ and after performing virtual magic shows for events in New York, Switzerland, California, Ireland – and all around the world – I offer you guidelines for making sure your guests are set up to see the show, and ready for a truly memorable experience.
Follow these simple guidelines, and the great experiences had by hundreds of families around the world can be repeated for your special event.
Before the virtual magic show…
- Provide the link to your guests ahead of time. Encourage everyone to arrive 10-15 minutes early, and resend the link two hours before the show-time so they don’t have to search their emails for the link.
- Clear the area of toys and distractions so that the kids can focus, engage and interact during the show.
- Ask parents to temporarily change the display name on the account to their child’s name. Kids love hearing their names when I give shout outs!
- Give yourself peace of mind by securing the space. The chances of someone “Zoombombing” the party – or showing up uninvited – are very slim, especially when you take these precautions: keep the meeting info private (don’t post the link publicly on a website), create a separate meeting id (don’t use the personal meeting id), restrict guests’ ability to share their screens, and lock the room after everyone has arrived.
During the show…
- Spotlight the presenter when the show starts: Spotlighting the video gives everyone a front row seat to the action. To learn how to spotlight the video, click here.
- Mute participants during the show, and unmute for volunteers, laughter and applause. The person managing the sound is like a virtual emcee/DJ
- Record the show so that you can look back and see how much fun it was again and again!
After the show…
- Serve food, drinks and desserts
- Tag me on Facebook @NewYorkCityMagician when your kids and guests experience common symptoms of a Magic Evan event, such as belly-laughter, looks of amazement and endless thank you’s for “the most FUN time ever!”
Okay, let’s re-cap…
These 7 little tips will make a BIG difference when it comes to the audience’s experience of a virtual magic show.
