5 Things You Need to Do Before Booking a NYC Magician

Want to book a magician in NYC?

You could go with the cheapest kids party entertainer you find, but remember…

…most kids unconsciously consider their party one of the most important days of the entire year.

If you want your son or daughter’s big day to be filled with non-stop fun, laughter and delight, then the NYC magician you choose should be professional, experienced and reliable.

Read these 5 quick tips before booking a magician in NYC. You’ll be glad you did (and so will the kids).

1. Find a Professional Children’s Magician. A quick Google search will bring up dozens of magicians who claim to be “the best” at everything from trade shows to corporate events to kid’s parties and weddings.

But, “A jack of all trades is a master of none.” Steer clear of anyone who claims to excel at everything under the sun.

A professional children’s magician knows how to make kids laugh, hold their attention, gracefully handle interruptions and more.

Remember: children won’t sit and applaud politely if the magician is bad. The second the kids are bored, they’ll stand up and leave!

2. Watch Magic Demo Videos. This is a really fun way to include your child in the birthday party planning.

Sit down and watch demo videos together. Pay attention to what your child says. Watch how he or she reacts.

Kids tend to be blatantly honest and won’t hold back their opinions! (even more reason to follow my advice in #1)

In general, professional children’s magicians keep their videos to between 1-3 minutes. So in just a couple minutes time, you’ll have a really good idea for who you’d like to book.

3. Read reviews. The best birthday party magicians make it easy for you to read their reviews.

Read the reviews on their website. Google their name and see what pops up. Look at sites (like Facebook or Yelp) where parents post honest comments.

4. Look for experience. It takes most people between 5-10 years to establish a successful business. The standard for becoming a professional children’s magician is no different.

Here are some questions you’ll want to ask yourself while evaluating the magician’s experience:

  • Has the magician performed for children before? How long has he been performing?
  • Does he have any teaching experience? How do you know he enjoys working with kids?

5. Book early. When you find the magician that’s right for your child’s birthday party, then book as soon as you can!

Available dates book up really quickly. Take away holidays and special events, and there are only 90 available dates every year.

Here’s the bottom line: If you want a birthday party magician in NYC that can turn your child’s party into an event that’s engaging, memorable and inclusive… then follow the 5 tips above.
