How to Use Google Maps to Share the Location of Your Outdoor Birthday
Parks and playgrounds are popular places to celebrate birthdays, but forgetting to share the precise location can be frustrating for guests (“Which picnic blanket with balloons should we go to again?”).
The good news is that there’s a simple solution: Google Maps!
Last weekend a parent who had booked my show for her daughter’s party in Central Park asked me for advice: “How can I let parents know where the party is?”
It’s a common question, and I’m glad she asked!
Google Maps makes it easy to drop a pin on a map and share the precise location of your child’s birthday party.
Learn how to let guests know where to find you by watching this quick video or following the simple steps below. You’ll be glad you did (and so will your guests!)
How to Drop a Pin with Google Maps
- First, open the Google Maps app on your phone
- Then search for a place.
- Next, touch and hold to drop a pin at the party location.
- Label the location (example: “Evan’s 6th Birthday Party!”)
- Tap Share.
- Finally, choose the app you want to use to share the party location (text message, email, etc)
Goodbye Guesswork, Hello Google!
Don’t have a precise location yet? Worried it might change? No worries!
It may still be helpful to send guests a dropped pin so that they can plan ahead.
Simply add a note that the location is approximate, and let everyone know when to expect the precise location.
