Healthy party food is a rarity at NYC birthday parties, which makes one wonder… “How could I possibly try to serve anything other than pizza, soda and cake?”
If serving healthy food at your child’s NYC birthday party sounds risky, then I get it. The last thing I’d want at my child’s birthday party is a room full of kids planning a rebellion!
But after reading an article on Jamie Oliver’s website about healthy party food for kids, I started to see the light…
…Bettina Campolucci-Bordi’s article is packed with healthy party food ideas and tips. As soon as I read it, I felt inspired and excited to try out some new party food ideas.
Check out 5 of my favorite tips below, and read the full article here.
Serve food that happens to be both popular and healthy (strawberries, bananas, etc.)
Give kids ownership over the making of their food
Re-brand food with fun and creative names (example: green smoothies become “Shrek Juice”)
Substitute sugary drinks with your own homemade fizzy drinks
Hide the good stuff in sweet or savory dips
The biggest take-away for me was that serving healthy party food for kids is absolutely do-able. It may seem daunting at first, but a little creativity can go a long way!
