7 NYC Trick-Or-Treating Safety Tips

Are your kids excited to go trick-or-treating? As a new Dad, a big part of the fun for me will be taking pictures of my son while he’s wearing his magician costume…

…like father, like son! :-)

In the spirit of having fun and staying safe, I wanted to share the helpful trick-or-treating safety tips I found on nyc.gov

1. Supervise your child when trick-or-treating or make sure they’re with a trusted adult. Don’t let your child enter anyone’s home alone.

2. Tell your child to look both ways before crossing the street and cross only at street corners.

3. Carefully check treats for tampering, choking hazards and possible allergies. Do not let your child eat any open or unwrapped treats.

4. Limit the amount of treats your child eats.

I’d also add a few helpful safety tips to the list….

5. Have a ‘dress rehearsal’ before trick-or-treating to ensure the costume is safe (the mask/headpiece is see-thru, the costume isn’t a tripping hazard, etc.)

6. Bring flashlights if you’ll be trick-or-treating at night.

7. Keep an eye on the forecast so that you’re prepared for the weather. Expect anything from moderate temperatures to cold, rainy, “hurricane-y” or any variation in between.

Follow these trick-or-treating safety tips, and this year’s Halloween will be the most fun and ‘spook-tacular’ one yet!
