Ever wish you could spend more quality time with your kids?
Do you feel frustrated because you and/or your partner work long hours?
Have you found yourself thinking, “There’s never enough time in the day!”
If you find yourself nodding “Yes,” then you’re in good company.
In a survey conducted by Virgin Holidays and Universal Orlando Resort, it was found that the average family spends less than 8 hours together per week.
Sound familiar?
I’ve certainly felt like a bad parent when I had to leave for work. Finding ways to spend more quality time with family is not easy!
Let’s face it: there are only so many hours in a day.
And although doing a magic trick to change the space time continuum and create more hours in the day is on my to-do list, I’ve found this to be helpful:
it’s the quality (and not necessarily the quantity) of family time that’s most important
1. Read to them
Reading to your child between the ages of two and five has been shown to bring you and your child closer together, improve communication skills, enhance concentration and more.
2. Play a game
You don’t have to bust out the Monopoly board. Keep it simple and the fun will follow!
3. Cook together
Colors, shapes, textures, sizes… not only is cooking fun, but it opens up a world of learning opportunities, too.
4. Watch their favorite show or movie together
Expressing an interest in their favorite show will go a long way. And don’t forget the movie snacks! ;-)
5. Build a fort
Release your inner-child!
6. Go for a walk
As John Muir once said, “In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks.”
7. Work together on a project
Remember to keep it simple. And if it’s not fun, then stop!
There you have it. These are 7 of my favorite, simple ways to spend quality time with the family.
It’s these simple, precious moments that you and your family will remember for the rest of your lives.
