Take Your Child to Work Day is on Thursday, April 27th, 2017!
Of course, planning an event that’s fun, engaging and inclusive for the entire family isn’t easy, but with a little planning, it can be done!
I recently came across an article on Forbes about the Do’s and Don’ts of Take Your Child to Work Day. Follow these quick tips to make planning a lot easier and more fun.
Do plan an agenda for the day and make sure the children are actively engaged
Don’t let the children take over or become too involved
Do inform your child’s teacher to let them know about their participation
Don’t assume the children (or parents) are comfortable
Do ask other parents for tips and advice
Don’t bring negativity to work
Do talk to your child, boss and colleagues about the plan, expectations, etc.
Don’t forget to reflect on the experience (What was your favorite part? Did something surprise you? How can you apply what you learned to _________?)
Do seize the opportunity to talk with your child about their career ambitions
Do introduce your child to your colleagues, workplace roles and responsibilities
