Take Your Child to Work Day: 5 Common Mistakes You Can Easily Avoid

Take Your Child to Work Day

Planning a Take Your Child to Work Day event? This can be an exciting and rewarding experience for both parents and children!

But after hearing from HR professionals and Executive Assistants who often felt frustrated by this daunting task, I decided to do something about it.

For over 15 years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with companies like DIRECTV and Abercrombie to plan some unforgettable events. In this article, I share five common mistakes that you’ll want to avoid to make this year’s event the best one yet!

Mistake #1: Failing to Plan Ahead

One of the biggest mistakes is failing to plan ahead.

This can result in a lack of organization and an inability to effectively communicate the event to employees.

To avoid this mistake, start planning the event well in advance, and ensure that all employees are aware of the event and its purpose.

Mistake #2: Not Having a Clear Purpose

Who’s the event for? What’s it for? What would you like children and families feel before, during and after the event?

If Take Your Child to Work Day is more than just a day of fun and games, then it’s important to set measurable goals and objectives from the start.

Mistake #3: Ignoring Safety Concerns

Failing to address safety concerns can result in accidents, injuries, and potential legal liabilities.

To avoid this mistake, conduct a safety inspection of the workplace before the event, identify potential hazards, and take steps to minimize the risks.

Mistake #4: Overcomplicating the Activities

It may be tempting to plan complex and elaborate activities for the event, but this can actually detract from the purpose of the day.

Children should be able to understand and engage with the activities, and they should be age-appropriate, fun and engaging.

Mistake #5: Not Collecting Feedback

After the event is over, it is important to collect feedback from employees and their children.

This feedback can help you improve the event for next year and identify areas that need improvement.

Okay, let’s re-cap!

Avoid these common mistakes to create an event that will be remembered for years to come!
